her kekkei genkai is a dojutsu gained from her mother's side of the family. her mother came from the nearly extinct fujiwara clan - small in numbers, with only her mother and herself left - and their kekkei genkai gave them the ability to copy other kekkei genkai at the cost of a certain large price of chakra like, say, a non-uchiha using the sharingan (see: kakashi). the dojutsu is always active, but only takes chakra when it's leeching off of other people's kekkei genkai; it's shown a fairly normal looking eye with the exception of a very light green, thick circle around the pupil outlined by a thinner circle of noticably darker green. the colors vary depending on the eye color of the fujuwara clan member, but most of them have either purple or green eyes.

as of chapter one, hitomi has copied shisui uchiha's sharingan, including his mangekyou sharingan.
